I Have A Wonderfully Boring Life.
Yesterday I went to Cassadaga Beach in the afternoon. It was so hot and I wanted to go swimming. The only other people at the lake were a gaggle of pre-teen kids, but they were cool and funny and they asked me a bunch of questions. Again, I felt like a den mother, but it’s okay. The two I hung out with the most were named Angelo and Danny. They were cool kids, able to carry on a conversation with someone older, which is always a good quality to have.
Stepping into that water felt like coming home. Diving in once I got deep enough was like getting baptized, except finishing it off with a handstand and front somersault. Angelo, Danny, and I swam out to "the middle of the lake, or at least until we hit seaweed" - we hit seaweed first and I was hit with a flashback of learning to swim in that lake, getting seaweed wrapped around my little ankles. I gave each of them my website and told them to look for their names. They were pretty stoked.
Today I went to the lake after breakfast to write. It was sunny and blistering hot and I sat on the dock with my feet in the cool water for awhile. It was so nice and peaceful. Two guys about my age showed up after awhile to fish. We got to talking and they asked if I wanted to try. I am no fisherman, I’ve only held a pole maybe once in my life, but I tried it. I cast well, well enough to catch a lot of seaweed. We had fun. Their names were John and Brandon and they were pretty cool. John even carried my laptop back to my car like a gentleman.
I got really wet, even my pants, when John's lure got stuck on a big rock and I waded out to free it. I did laundry yesterday so heading to the laundromat again was out of the question, but I had to wash my jeans and a couple other things, so I did ghetto laundry in my bathtub. Then I had no clothespins to hang them on the line, so I did ghetto hanging in the bathroom and on the grill outside.
It was a great afternoon. On the way home I bought hot dogs and buns and marshmallows to roast over the fire tonight. It should be a good time!
